Phenoloxidase-mediated melanization and oxidative defense enzyme responses in Anax junius Dragonfly Nymphs

Abstract
This study looked into phenoloxidase-mediated melanization and oxidative defense enzyme responses in Anax junius dragonfly nymphs to better understand their involvement in innate immunity and oxidative stress management. Exposure to an experimental challenge resulted in a 102.8% increase in phenoloxidase activity and a 68.4% rise in melanization intensity. Superoxide dismutase activity rose from 18.62 ± 0.74 to 27.45 ± 1.12 U/mg protein, while catalase activity increased from 14.38 ± 0.63 to 22.16 ± 0.91 U/mg protein. Glutathione-S-transferase activity went up from 6.21 ± 0.37 to 10.84 ± 0.52 U/mg protein. These reactions suggest that A. junius nymphs' melanization and antioxidant defenses are activated in tandem.
